By Jodie Gaul What better way to start the holidays than some quality time with your children, we all understand how hectic our lifestyles can be, and taking that conscious effort to spend quality time will pay off. Not only will it enable you to feel fulfilled and happy but also your childs enthusiasm will shine through more, putting an even bigger smile on your face! Even if its the weekend and the rain just wont stop outside, then sit with your children and do something together, all children look up to their parents and its your responsibility to make the difference with some free time you have as a family. Firstly one of the best ways to occupy and have fun at the same time is colouring and decorating! Using your imagination alongside your childs will enable some masterpieces to unfold before your eyes. Little things like using shells and sand to create a fun seaside picture, or perhaps blowing paint through a straw to create some great art, which is so much fun for all! Or why not get the messy glitter out and go mad with some sparkle. The key here is about having fun and not worrying about the mess or the time it takes, just relax and most importantly allow your child to interact with you on their level, your not sensible mum and dad for this time, your playing the way they play and enjoying it as much! So after reading the facts lets get down to the fun stuff and go checkout Colouring In For Kids, where you can download a particular theme such as fairies, seaside adventures or even toys to colour in and decorate. I suggest printing these on coloured card to make it more of a masterpiece, go take a look and get free quality downloads! The other great option if you have another baby on the scene or on the way, is to print off the great My Baby Sister or My Baby Brother artwork. What a perfect gift for their new sister or brother, which at the same time will help with sibling rivalry. Talk to your child about the new addition to the family, at a time when some children can feel a little left out. Dont underestimate how much they will enjoy this quality time with you, when a big change is taking place. Just remember it may sometimes be difficult to spend as much time with your children as you would like, looking back on your own childhood and thinking about the childhood you want to give to your children is key to being a successful parent, these times dont last forever. Cherish them! For any new babies in your family, try our Personalised Baby Gift I am a talented illustrator, and graphic designer, having worked in the design industry for over 7 years. Tea, Spirituality and The Japanese Tea Ceremony: An Interview with Michael Ricci
By Terry Calamito Michael Ricci was weeding the Tea House garden when I arrived for our interview. We sat in front of the little tea "hut" at Buddhist-inspired Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado where in just one hour I would scoot through the tiny doorway on my knees to participate in my first Japanese Tea Ceremony along with his students and other newcomers. Michael found the Tea Ceremony (Chado) through Japanese Zen Buddhism. "I started reading about Zen and I kept coming across references to tea. I called up Naropa and they happened to be offering their first class on it through the extended studies program. There was one position left. I came and immediately fell in love with it." He adds, "It seemed like the perfect way to understand more about Zen and start doing something contemplative alongside my meditation. It was a spiritual path that made sense to me." "Everything the Japanese do turns into an art, and that's the way they treat tea. Keeping the tradition alive is serious, and the rules are very important to them. The Japanese Tea Ceremony incorporates almost all of the traditional Japanese arts--flower arranging, calligraphy, laquerware, ceramics, bamboo, wood. I'm an artist so I just fell in love with all of it." Michael spent two years studying Tea with Hobart Bell, head of the Boulder Zen Center before being accepted to study at Urasenke Headquarters in Kyoto under the guidance of 15th Generation Grand Tea Master of the Urasenke lineage of tea, which is the largest practicing tea lineage in the world. Here he was immersed in traditional Japanese culture and etiquette, learning all facets of Japanese Tea. But he had only scratched the surface after one year of study, so he stayed another year and a half. After that, he says, "I moved into a Zen Buddhist temple and trained alongside the monks. I didn't take vows, but I lived the life of a monk for 6 months." It is from this humble state of mind that Michael shares his knowledge through his tea classes and his art. "There are two ways to enjoy tea between host and guest. The first, Chaji, is a formal several-course meal that can last four to five hours. The abbreviated version, called Chakai, is simply a sweet and a bowl of tea." Michael was teaching the day I was there, so each of his students performed the short version tea ceremony one by one over four hours' time. There are no distractions inside the teahouse. Michael explains, "You're sitting on your knees in a very small room for 4 hours in a very intimate atmosphere. The dialogue is stripped down. Everything is designed to keep focus on the moment and to completely forget about the world outside of the teahouse." "The little door, called nijiriguchi , was designed for everybody to bow their heads as they enter the tea room. Shoguns and Samari might be sitting next to peasants. They would have to take off their swords and leave them outside, bow their heads and humble themselves because inside the tea room everybody is the same." Nowadays, he says, we take off our rings, jewelry and watches. "Anything that says 'This is Me,' or that takes us outside of the tearoom. Tea Ceremony is a timeless realm in a bottle." The ceremony is an expression of harmony, respect, purity, and tranquility through each deeply symbolic gesture--a graceful choreography between host and guest. Koicha is abowl of 'thick tea,' made with a lot of Matcha (powdered green tea) and less hot water. One bowl is shared between all 3 to 5 guests. The host serves the tea to 'First Guest,' (who is not a beginner and can model tea etiquette). First Guest bows to Second Guest and says in Japanese "Excuse me for taking my tea before you." Second Guest bows, too. First Guest drinks their share, turns and wipes the bowl's edge in a specific way with a paper napkin, and then passes it to Second Guest. Michael says, " Koicha is the most intimate part of the gathering, sharing the bowl like that." An initiation of sorts, I thought. 'Thin Tea,' Usucha , is more water and less tea, but only about three and a half sips. "It's just enough to quench your thirst. It's powder and it's not steeped. It is whisked," Michael explains. " During 'Thin Tea' the host makes each guest a bowl of tea from the same bowl. They each take turns first eating their sweet then drinking the tea." First Guest receives the bowl of tea, drinks it, passes it back to the host who wipes it, cleans it, and gives the next guest their bowl of tea in that same bowl. A watery sweet made of bean paste was served to refresh us that summer day. Soon each guest in turn examined the utensils--scoop, bowl and whisk--and inspected the bright green valley in the bowl from which a portion of Matcha had been skillfully scooped by the host when the tea was prepared. As the host retreated to the tiny kitchen, the conversation between guests turned to appreciation of the warm weather, the tea, the teahouse. My body tingled with a feeling of wellbeing. Was it the L-theanine in the green tea? Or a result of paying close attention to every movement? My mind arrived at stillness, like tea leaves settling on the bottom of a cup. ***** Michael Ricci is a tea practitioner who teaches the Japanese Tea Ceremony and its related arts and cultural influences. He studied the art and craft of making tea utensils in the traditional Japanese pottery style called Raku, invented in Japan over 400 years ago specifically for the tea ceremony. He makes tea utensils from clay, bamboo and wood, which you can see during one of his classes or special event tea ceremonies. He has lectured and held demonstrations at pottery studios, universities and art organizations along the Front Range in Colorado, USA. Move Through the Fear of Having a Spiritual Experience
By Nina Amir Lately, I've found myself looking more carefully at my life-what I want it to look like and what I have to do to create that reality. I have moved closer to many of my goals, but there are a few that involve, as author Thomas Moore would say, "care of the soul" that I have not taken steps toward creating. Although I often complain about not having enough time to meditate, read spiritual books, journal, or pray, lack of time really is not what has stopped me from achieving my spiritual goals. I simply have not committed my time -- and my energy -- to my spiritual pursuits in the same manner I have committed time and energy to other goals. I have to admit that I get a lot of things accomplished every day, just not those things related to my spiritual practice. So, I recently asked myself, "Why don't I put time and energy into the activities that are most important to me, the goals that will help me not only lead a more spiritual life but also help me feel my connection to God?" The answer I gave was simple: "Fear." I have always considered fear the primary factor that stops us from moving forward on the spiritual path. We say we want to care for our souls, to nurture our spirits, to connect with our inner being and with the Divine Essence that creates all things. Yet, we constantly find roadblocks and obstacles in our way or, rather, we place them there. Why? Because we are afraid to care for our souls, nurture our spirits, connect with our inner being and with God. Each person possesses a personal fear all their own. Speaking for myself, I'm afraid that if I really achieve my spiritual goals I will be changed, and that those changes will cause other changes within myself and within my life that I don't desire or won't like. I might not want to do anything but sit among the Redwoods surrounding my house and meditate. I might neglect my children, my husband, my work, and, in the process, I might lose them all. In addition, I might change in such a way that I no longer fit in with so-called "normal" people. While I always have felt a bit like the "fringe dwellers" described by author Stuart Wilde, I would hate to feel all the more "different." I would not like to discover that other people regarded me as so different they no longer wanted to associate with me. I also am afraid I won't be able to handle the experience of Divine connection. Most people who have delved into the study of Kabbalah, the Jewish mystical tradition, have heard or read the Talmudic story of the four who went into the Garden -- a space or realm where they directly experienced God. According to the Talmudic sages, four went into the dwelling place of God, thereby entering into the glory of God's heavenly kingdom. One was so overcome by the experience that he died, another went mad, and the third became an apostate. Only one, Rabbi Akiba was able to look upon God's holy place, delve into the meaning of God's holy words, and experience direct connection with God and survive unscathed. As the story goes, the reason for Akiba's ability to do so lay in his great wisdom and scholarship. The moral of the story is clear: Only a great scholar can experience God and continue living life as before. I harbor some fear that like the second of those who entered paradise, I will go crazy. However, I would rather be like Rabbi Akiba who left the garden having experienced the Divine and was able to take this experience with him into the world. I am sure in doing so he was able to feel his Divine connection more readily, more often, yet he was able to live as did others, albeit with greater understanding, wisdom, spiritual connection. I believe he was likely able to be, as Jesus taught, in the world but not of it. I, too, would like always remember that I am in the world but not of itto know that I am a spiritual being having a human experience and not a human being having a spiritual experience. Yet, I am afraid that if I "enter paradise," I won't be able to do that. While attending a Jewish conference (sponsored by ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal) a number of years ago, I took a class with Rabbi David Cooper, author of "God is a Verb." I asked him why we don't meditate like we want to, why we don't do the things we need to do to really have an experience of God. His response came in word: "Fear." This answer confirmed what I already knew. It's ironic that what we spiritual seekers say we most want is the thing many of us most fear. I have been thinking of my vision for 2007 and of my resolutions. TO manifest that vision and to achieve my goals, I must recommit myself to walking Rebbe Nachman of Bratzlov's "narrow bridge." He wrote a song called (in Hebrew) "Gesher Tzar Meod," which means, "The Very Narrow Bridge." The song's lyrics are very simple: "All of this life is a very narrow bridge, and the main thing is not to fear at all." I have to remember every day and in every moment to keep moving forward despite my fear, to move through the fear, to use trust and faith as a "bridge" between my fear and my goal. Our lives truly are narrow bridges. We just don't see them that way. Our beliefs make us see a solid floor beneath our feet, just as we see a solid table when we place our cup of coffee or tea down upon it. Our senses confirm these "facts." Both the table and the floor feel solid. In fact, neither is that, rather they consist of rapidly moving molecules and particles and air. So, each time we take a step forward, do we really know that the floor, the road, the bridge, will support our weight? Do we know it is solid? No. We assume it is. We trust it is. We have faith it is. Thus, we move forward. When we have fear, we lack trust and faith. In response to that fear, we remain standing where we are. We do not move forward toward our goals. When I used to drive down the mountain from my former home I'd pass a little sign that says, "narrow bridge." Just beyond the sign, indeed, lies a bridge. Despite the sign's warning, however, the bridge really is not narrow, especially in comparison with that particular road, which winds up and down the mountainside with barely enough room for two cars to pass comfortably. The bridge actually seems much wider than the road and much safer. Its white side rails offer the appearance of a bit of protection given that much of the road has no such barrier between the edge and the sheer drop off beyond. This sign and the bridge are a reminder to me every day that what we see, what we experience, are not always reality. We create our own reality, and fear is part of what we sometimes create. Most of our lives we live in faith and trust. We have faith that our home will still be standing at the end of the day, that the traffic signals will change, that the road will not cave in, that our hearts will beat, that our lungs will take in air. Thus, we must also have faith as we pursue our spiritual goals, as we engage in our spiritual practice, that not only will we reach our goals, but that that attainment will move us in the direction we desire to travel. We must realize that, despite what our mind and our senses tell us, despite our beliefs otherwise, we are always connected to the Divine Spirit. We were created in the Divine Image and were brought to life with a Divine Breath. We may not feel connected, but we are. We may not feel like partners with God in the continual creation of our lives, but we are. When we acknowledge the reality of these facts, there is nothing left to fear. And the narrow bridge becomes a moment to moment meditation on our faith, our trust, our connection to God. Then we can remember that we are always in the world and not of it and we are constantly having a spiritual experience. Natural Relief for Migraines
By Jake Rallos When someone says Ive got a headache, this is not just an idle excuse to
make fun of. 25 million Americans suffer from migraines and 75% are women. Its
no laughing matter but natural remedies can be given both immediate and
long-term permanent relief.
Migraine episodes last between 6 and 48 hours and leave the person bedridden or
unable to function fully sometimes. There are many symptoms but usually include
intense throbbing pain on just one side of the head. Specific causes are unknown but migraines are thought to be the result of
inflammation. This comes from stress, hormonal changes (especially during
menstruation, ovulation or puberty), medications (including birth control
pills), MSG, alcohol, caffeine or eating certain foods (such as chocolate). Two main types of migraine headaches are common and classic. 80% fall into the
common migraine category without an aura. These are less painful than the
classic variety with auras. An array of visual disturbances that occur shortly
before the onset of a headache is an aura. It is sometimes accompanied by nausea
and vomiting. Classic migraines are often confused with ocular migraines. It occurs in only
one eye. Its usually less violent if a headache follows. The symptoms are only
temporary and arent harmful to the eye. Ocular migraines can, however,
interfere with reading or driving. Lying down in a cool, quiet, dark place or by applying an ice pack or cold
compresses to the pulsing area can temporarily give relief to migraine
sufferers. The headache will usually go away after a nap or a full nights
sleep. For More articles and information on migraine and migraine treatments visit

Who is Going to Wear the Flower Girl Dress?
By Hilde Berge A wedding is a special time of life, one that unites two people, man and woman in a marriage. In planning your wedding, you will also plan a wedding party, the people that are special to you in your life, and that are witnesses to your marriage. The wedding party will include a maid of honor, a best man, and a flower girl and ring bearer. Some wedding parties will also include the use of additional maids and grooms in the party. There are no limits to who you can include in your wedding party, but it is important to realize how each should dress while being witness to your wedding. Many weddings are going to include the use of a flower girl and a ring bearer that are special to the couple. These could be the nieces, nephews, children of special friends, or the children of the couple. The flower girl is a mini representation of the bride. The flower girl dress should be similar to that of the bride. The flower girl dress is going to be different form the other girls in the wedding part. The dress should be white is the bride is going to wear white. The only difference often times between the flower girl and the bride, is that the bride is going to wear a veil and the flower girl is not going to wear a veil. The flower girl dress is one that could be knee length or it could be floor length. The flower girl dress is not one that should be colorful if the brides dress is not colorful. You can purchase a flower girl dress in the same store where you are purchasing a brides dress. The flower girl dress can often times seem expensive, but if you are smart, you can shop in other areas of the store and find a good deal. Look for a flower girl dress that is last years style. Styles from last year are not really that different and they can be up to 50% off, which is going to save you money. The mother of the flower girl is the one who usually pays for the flower girl dress that is being purchased, but you dont want to make that person pay too much. You can also take a look at the first communion dresses for girls. These are the dresses that are very similar in style, and they are white, that can be worn as a flower girl dress. The flower girl is often times going to put rose petals or flowers along the aisle as the bride walks down the aisle. You can include a bow on the flower girl dress that is the same colors of the wedding to make her stand out in pictures and to enhance her dress. The shoes for the flower girl should match the flower girl dress. They should be white. Enjoy shopping for all the dresses for your wedding party! Article written by Hilde Berge, Norway. The Tricks On How To Lose The Fat On Lower Stomach
By Chess McDoogle How to lose the fat on lower stomach is a challenging question which exerciser's and dieter's have been frustrated with for years. It can be frustrating losing alot of weight, but then not being able to "dial it in" and nail that last portion of fat. Here i'll list three tricks to answer the question how to lose the fat on lower stomach. These are added techniques to use for when one has already dieted down and exercised and need a few tricks to the trade to add to the mix in a quest to finally answer how to lose the fat on lower stomach. These also can be used by dieters who want to tackle the question how to lose the fat on lower stomach head on and from the get-go. That is, not put themselves in a position where they've accomplished so much yet then realize at the end that they've lacked progress in the how to lose the fat on the lower stomach game. Time for the tricks! 1. The A.M. empty stomach trick. One trick of the trade to really dial things in and burn off that last fat roll on the lower stomach is to start doing your exercising in the a.m., morning hours, and specifically, the first thing upon waking. Yes, thats correct, as soon as you wake up in the morning begin your exercise regimen. Before even having breakfast or eating anything, do a cardio routine. How to lose the fat on lower stomach? First thing in the morning, on an empty stomach, perform a 20-40 minute cardio workout, treadmill, bike, walking around the block, whatever. The theory here is that your body is primed into fat burning mode the first thing in the morning, having not consumed anything overnight, and not eating anything in the morning, whatever calories you burn from your cardio, they will be fat calories. 2. The P.M. feeding cut off trick. Want to know how to lose the fat on lower stomach? Well, the second trick is to stop your eating at least 3 hours before you go to sleep. The theory here is that fat gets stored more easily by late night feedings, and eliminating them will contribute to fat burning and not contribute to additional fat storage. There has been controversy over this, people claiming that it doesn't matter one way or the other. But the proof is in the pudding and many a dieter has successfully answered the question how to lose the fat on lower stomach by implementing this method. 3. Finally, do in fact do specific abdominal training exercises that target the lower stomach area. This not only shapes that area of the stomach, but also the feeling of your lower abdominal area being "worked", the muscles strong and tight, mentally this brings more focus onto your lower stomach region and in fact does cause a more rapid weight loss answer on how to lose the fat on lower stomach. The mental game in fitness and weight loss is extremely underrated, yet it has successfully answered many tough questions, and is another trick here in answering how to lose the fat on lower stomach! Researching abdominal exercise routines is actually more important now than ever because your really trying to dial in that last stubborn fat area in your lower abdominals. Now you probably want direction towards an amazing ab routine? http://www.squidoo.com/howtolosethefatonlowerstomach/ Helps to get you on the quickest path to getting lean. Chiropractic is Responsible for the Rebirth of Homeopathy in America
By Dr Sylvain Desforges The history of homeopathy begins with the discoveries of its founder Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843), a German physician. Hahnemann's first comments about the general applicability of the law of similars came in 1789. Maybe the most prevalent reason that allopaths disliked homeopaths and homeopathy was expressed at a 1903 AMA (American Medical Association) meeting by a distinguished orthodox physician. "We must," he said, "admit that we never fought the homeopath on matters of principle; we fought him because he came into the community and got the business." Most physicians, even now, will not admit that economic factors play a chief role in what is practiced and what is allowed to be practiced. It only makes sense then that Hahnemann's principles constituted a philosophical, clinical, and economic threat to orthodox medicine.
The growing popularity of homeopathy in the United States started shortly after Hans Gram, a Danish homeopath, emigrated in the US in 1825. The first homeopathic school in the US, the North American Academy of the Homoeopathic Healing Art, was founded in Allentown, PA, 1836 , by Dr. W. Wesselhoeft (1794-1858) . Dr. von Lippe emigrating to the United States in 1839. He presented himself to the sole school of the homeopathic practice in this country - the old Allentown Academy of the Homoeopathic Healing Art. After assiduous application he was granted his diploma from Dr. Constantine Hering (1800-1880), as President of the institution, on July 27, 1841. Dr. von Lippe filled the chair of materia medica in the Homoeopathic College of Pennsylvania from 1863 to 1868 . In 1844 they organized the American Institute of Homeopathy, which became America's first national medical society. In response to the growth of homeopaths, in 1846 an opposing medical group formed, which then vowed to slow the development of homeopathy. This organization called itself the AMA or American Medical Association.
Shortly after the formation of the AMA it was decided to eliminate all the local medical societies of physicians who were homeopaths. In 1848, the Homeopathic College of Pennsylvania was established by Constantine Hering, Jacob Jeanes and Walter Williamson, to provide training in what was then an emerging system of medicine called homeopathy. In 1869, the Homeopathic College was renamed in honor of Samuel Hahnemann, one of the pioneers of homeopathic medicine, as Hahnemann Medical College. In 1982, Hahnemann Medical College gained university status as Hahnemann University. In 2002, the Drexel University board of trustees voted unanimously in favor of merging Hahnemann University into Drexel . In 1849, the AMA established a board to analyze quack remedies and nostrums and to enlighten the public about the nature and dangers of such remedies. In 1855, the AMA put into effect a "consultation clause" in their code of ethics which spelled out that orthodox physicians would lose their membership in the AMA if they even only consulted with a homeopath or any other "unorthodox" practitioner. This of course meant that if a physician lost membership in the AMA, that in some states he no longer had a license to practice medicine. The AMA did everything possible to eradicate homeopaths from the practice of medicine, and the effects of these actions are still felt today. 1875 marked the year Michigan legislature voted to give money to a new hospital as long two homeopathic professors were allowed to teach at the University of Michigan. In a 1890 Harpers Magazine article Mark Twain mentioned the great value of homeopathy: "The introduction of homeopathy forced the old school doctor to stir around and learn something of a rational nature about his business. Good old Mark also proclaimed "that you may honestly feel grateful that the homeopath survived attempts of the allopathists to destroy it."
By the early 1900s, there were 22 homeopathic medical schools, more than 100 homeopathic hospitals, over 60 orphan asylums and old people's homes and more than 1,000 homeopathic pharmacies in the United States. In 1910, the Carnegie Foundation issued the infamous Flexner Report, an evaluation of American medical schools headed by Mr. Abraham Flexner and of course in cooperation with leading members of the AMA. While pretending to at least be somewhat objective, Flexner in his report established guidelines to endorse orthodox medical schools and condemn homeopathic ones. The report gave the most credits to medical schools with a full time teaching faculty and institutions that taught a pathological and physiochemical analysis of the human body. Homeopathic colleges did not get as high credits because there preference of employing professors who were not only teachers or researchers but also in clinical practice. Even though homeopathic schools included many basic science courses, they offered courses in pharmacology, which the Flexner report found to be a waist of time. By 1906, the AMAs Council on Medical Education had created a list of unacceptable schools that in 1910, and closed hundreds of private medical and homeopathic schools and named Johns Hopkins as the model school. As you might have guessed, homeopathic colleges, in general, were given poorer ratings by Mr. Flexner's report. One of the implications of the report was that only graduates of schools that received a high rating were permitted to take the medical licensing exams. In 1900 there were 22 homeopathic colleges, by 1923 only two remained. Between 1930 and 1975 it seemed that the AMA's oppression of homeopathy was complete. By 1950 all homeopathic colleges in the U.S were either closed or ceased to teach homeopathy. There were only 50 to 150 practicing homeopaths in the country, and most of them were over 50 years old. A chiropractor, Dr. John Bartholomew Bastyr, N.D., D.C (1912-1995), was a third-generation homeopath from Dr. Adolph von Lippe. His teacher was Dr. C. P. Bryant (who had been, in 1939, president of the International Hahnemannian Association). C. P. Bryant had been taught by Walter Bushrod James who had been one of Lippes closest students. He received doctorate degrees in naturopathy and chiropractic from Northwest Drugless Institute and Seattle Chiropractic College, respectively. He became licensed to practice naturopathic medicine in 1936. He is also credited with being the Father of Modern Naturopathic Medicine. Because of Bastyrs influence naturopaths have been at the forefront of the rebirth of homeopathy in this country. He made sure that homeopathy shared equal emphasis with nutrition, hydrotherapy and botanical medicine in naturopathic education. Dr. Bastyr considered manipulation the most important therapy in his practice. "Bastyr's conversion to homeopathy was an important move for the modern naturopathic profession. Homeopathy had been part of naturopathic medicine for decades, but its role had been much more peripheral. The majority of practitioners had not received such intensive, classical instruction as Bastyr. In the 1950's when Bastyr became involved in establishing and teaching a naturopathic curriculum at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, his balanced emphasis of homeopathy as a therapeutic modality coequal with nutrition, hydrotherapy and botanical medicine assured its place in the ongoing development of naturopathic science."
-Kirshfeld and Boyle, Nature Doctors, Buckeye Naturopathic Press, 1994 Naturopathy, which combined nature cure with homeopathy, massage, spinal manipulation, and therapeutic electricity, was developed in America largely through the work of Benedict Lust (pronounced loost; 1872-1945). From 1900-1938, naturopathic medicine flourished in America. Interest then declined, due to the emergence of miracle medicine, surgical advances during WWII, and the growing political sophistication of the American Medical Association (AMA). Chiropractic and naturopathy were taught together until about 1955 when the National Chiropractic Association stopped granting accreditation to schools that also taught naturopathy. In 1956, doctors founded the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in an attempt to keep the profession alive.
Dr. John Bastyr served as executive director. A chiropractor, naturopath and obstetrician, he began his practice in Seattle in the depths of the Great Depression; Bastyr was so revered as a physician and teacher that the Naturopathic College in Seattle was named in his honor. The key to Bastyrs legendary clinical successes lay in his basic philosophy. In a 1985 interview, asked to distinguish between naturopathy and conventional medicine, he said, The basic difference is that in naturopathy its not the doctor who does the curing, its the patient. In 1978, after twenty years with only one legitimate college graduating naturopathic physicians (National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, OR), the first new naturopathic medical school, Bastyr University, was opened in Seattle, WA. In 1987, Bastyr University became the first naturopathic college to become accredited by the Council on Naturopathic Medical Education, which is the federally recognized accrediting agency for naturopathic medical colleges.
There are four recognized naturopathic medical colleges in the United States today: Bastyr University, National College of Naturopathic Medicine, Southwest College of Naturopathic Medicine & Health Sciences, and University of Bridgeport College of Naturopathic Medicine. There is also one in Canada, the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine. Naturopathic medical training begins with a conventional premedical education. The student progresses to a four-year, scientificallybased medical school program. The first two years concentrate on standard medical school sciences such as anatomy, physiology, chemistry, etc. The second two years are oriented toward the clinical sciences, diagnosis and treatment. Standard medical techniques are taught along with mainstay naturopathic medical therapies. The end product of a naturopathic medical school program is a well-rounded family care physician that specializes in such therapies as: nutrition, botanical medicines, and homeopathy. The Council on Homeopathic Education is the only organization that accredits training programs in classical homeopathy. To date, it has accredited five institutions: Bastyr University of Natural Health Sciences in Seattle; College of Naturopathic Medicine in Canada, Hahnemann Medical Clinic in Albany, California; the National College of Naturopathic Medicine in Portland, and the International Foundation for Homeopathy, also in Seattle. Notice that three of those are actually naturopathic schools fonded by chiropractors. Brian Inglis (1916-1993), a distinguished British historian, commentator, and author of a two-volume work, The History Of Medicine, has declared: the rise of Chiropractichas been one of the most remarkable social phenomena in American Historyyet it has gone virtually unexplored (Inglis, THE CASE FOR UNORTHODOX MEDICINE, 1965). He was, at the time, unaware of the profound influence chiropractic would have on modern alternative medicine (CAM) as we know today. Not only did chiropractic saved both the naturopathic and homeopathic professions from extinction in the United States, but it also brougth solid academic grounds for their development towards well recognized health sciences. Wedding Catering: Buffet Or Service
By Amy Spade Another conundrum for soon-to-be married couples is the dilemma of having servers versus having a buffet for the reception. Both have their advantages and disadvantages, so lets look at both sides before you make your decision. At the buffet table The first and most obvious upshot of having a buffet style dinner at the wedding is the opportunity for all of the guests to choose what they want to eat. This way everyone is happy and they can have as much or as little as they want. There can be multiple things for various dietary restrictions as well as a multitude of side dishes for the vegetarian that hates getting pasta at every wedding. But the downside of the buffet table is that things that are popular will run out. If you do not plan ahead for shortages, then you may have guests that didnt get what they really wanted to eat. In terms of movement, the buffet table can be tricky. The bride may have troubles moving up there and might be afraid to spill anything on her dress, as other may be as well. Trying to find ways to serve items without having a large opportunity for spillage will help to avoid any dry cleaning bills. The service is excellent Having servers for the reception is a classy and easy way to keep everyone happy during the reception. Not only will no one have to move until the dance, but the servers can also attend to any problems without the couple even knowing about them. Drinks can also be served, which is wonderful for everyoneno more needing to get up and down during dinner. On the other hand, this excellent service does come with a price tag. It will be costlier to have staff waiting on the guests, especially with more guests. You will also take the chance of the staff being nice to the head table and not to the rest of the guests. The best advice is to interview each staff member as well before the reception. Both buffets and service are great options for reception dinners. If youre looking for something a little more casual, then the buffet will be great, but for the more formal occasion, service is best. You may want to stop and consider your guests at this point. If theyre older and dont move around well, service is a great way to keep them comfortable. Most Effective Weight Loss Program
By A. M. McKain What is the most effective weight loss program? Are you finding it difficult to stay motivated? Are your diet and exercise programs not working for you? Are you struggling to lose weight? Its essential to have a plan for proper nutrition and regular exercise, but theres a one more thing you need to lose weight fast and maintain your ideal body weight. That thing is to win the mental game of weight control. Even if you dont know, your thoughts influence your eating habits, your cravings, and your attitude toward exercise. For example one of the most efficient weight loss programs is audio program that control your weight through special sounds and help you to achieve rapid and permanent weight loss. Deeply engrained, subconscious thoughts and beliefs also known as self-talk are what determine your eating and exercise habits. If these thoughts are negative, they can result in a negative, overweight self-image and self-destructive behavior. What Does a Weight-Loss Program the Most Effective? That program must be safe. Does not matter if you create your own program or use a commercial one, all you have to do is to be sure its safe. A safe diet should include all of the recommended daily allowances for vitamins, minerals and protein. A weight-loss diet should not be low in essential vitamins or minerals, only in calories. With an efficient program you will have a slow steady weight-loss, and for this you should not worry about your weight. Because when you get ride of the fat it wont come back. Expect to lose only about a pound a week after the first week or two. With many calorie-restricted diets, there is an initial rapid weight loss during the first 1 to 2 weeks, but this loss is largely fluid. The initial rapid loss of fluid also is regained rapidly when you return to a normal-calorie diet. Thus, a reasonable goal of weight loss should be expected. The program should be directed toward slow, steady weight loss unless your doctor feels your health condition would benefit from more rapid weight loss. So, knowing all of this, and with that example (the audio program), you are ready to make a definition of the most effective weight loss program. This obsession with finding the one that is the official "best" is doing nothing good for you in anyway. There is no such thing as the best weight loss program. There is no such thing as the best diet. There is no such thing as the best workout. There is simply what works and what does not. And if it works all you have to do is maintain the weight you achieved after that program. That program will always contain plans for weight maintenance. It is of little benefit to lose a large amount of weight only to regain it. The program you select should help you improve your dietary habits, increase your physical activity, and help you change other lifestyle habits that may have contributed to your weight gain in the past. Weight maintenance is the most difficult part of controlling weight and is not consistently implemented in weight-loss programs. Being overweight is too often viewed as a temporary problem that can be treated for a few months with a strenuous diet. Any effective weight loss program is based on the actual way the human body loses weight without any trick. Fancy marketing makes other programs appear as though it is the most effective weight loss program available. If followed correctly it is impossible for it to not work. An effective program is not based on a gimmick as I said. It's simply what works, and that is all you really need. I am a nutritionist woman who used to be fat. The Separation of Church and State? Evolution, Intelligent Design and the Bible - Part 2
By Anthony Smith What is the Theory of Evolution? First we must look at what a Theory is. Heres the definition: 1. A belief that can guide behavior. 2. A tentative theory about the natural world; a concept that is not yet verified but that if true would explain certain facts or phenomena. 3. A well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; 4. an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena. "theories can incorporate facts and laws and tested hypotheses"; "true in fact and theory" Evolution; A process in which something passes by degrees to a different stage (especially a more advanced or mature stage) (biology) the sequence of events involved in the evolutionary development of a species or taxonomic group of organisms. The problem we have with the Theory of Evolution is that this theory is not based on provable facts. After all its just a theory. Words such as, 1. that if true, 2. A belief that can guide behavior, 3. A tentative theory, 4. a concept that is not yet verified, and 5. an organized system, brings about the fact that This Theory is not just a Theory but is a religion or better should I say Cult. When any organization such as the Scientific community brings about this type of Doctrine it separates itself from a reasonable house to a Doctrine-ated entity that deceives others and itself. Yes I'm saying that The Theory of Evolution is a Religion and a Doctrine. A Doctrine is, A belief (or system of beliefs) accepted as authoritative by some group or school. Evolution is a belief that can guide behavior, as such it becomes dangerous to not only the Christian Community but also to the Children that receive this information believing that the school system wouldn't teach it, if it wasn't true, this is a deception. The time of Schools teaching the three R's is over. Now we teach theories and speculation, not facts. A concept that is not yet verified is saying that evolution has no basses of truth because it has not been proven to be fact. So if the schools want to teach evolution as an unproven doctrine, why then cant we teach that 2 plus 2 equals 5 because it also is a Theory to some? 2 plus2 may not really equal 4. Sense Evolution is A belief that can guide behavior, can we also say the The Bible can also be taught because it also is a belief that can guide behavior. Where this theory is a bit scary, is that it may guide the behavior of the weak in mind to do things that are contrary to sound judgment. Darwin did not know the source of variations in individual organisms, but observed that it seemed to be by chance. Later work pinned much of this variation onto mutation. Words such as, Genetic drift, Gene flow, Natural selection, Morphological evidence, and Evolutionary Biology, all indicate a doctrine, which is supposed to be illegal, in society today, to have within our school systems. So why do the scientific and educational systems want to teach a theory as fact? Because they are offended by the truth of the Bible. For centuries they have tried to discount the truth of the Bible but to no avail. Many people have a hard time taking anything on Faith and Trust in an Entity they cannot see. But at the same time they want us to teach our children unproven theories about man evolving from animals. Where Evolution lacks credibility is that there is no mention of a soul, spirit nor the ability to make rational decisions. If a group of pre-animate objects evolved into a higher being why didn't all, of the same species evolve? And why don't the species that we are supposed to evolved from have a sense of Intelligent reasoning? Why? The Bible states in Job 32:9, Great men are not always wise: neither do the aged understand judgment. Ecc 3:19-22; For that which befalleth the sons of men befalleth beasts; even one thing befalleth them: as the one dieth, so dieth the other; yea, they have all one breath; so that a man hath no preeminence above a beast: for all is vanity. All go unto one place; all are of the dust, and all turn to dust again. Who knoweth the spirit of man that goeth upward, and the spirit of the beast that goeth downward to the earth? Wherefore I perceive that there is nothing better, than that a man should rejoice in his own works; for that is his portion: for who shall bring him to see what shall be after him? Now isn't it reasonable that sense Evolution is a belief that can guide behavior, and the schools systems say that it must be taught, why then are they so afraid to teach, not Intelligent Design, but the True Bible that also is a belief that can guide behavior? By Kevin Stith You can never go wrong with a gift basket. It is a great idea for Mothers Day, as you can fill it up with a number of things that your mom loves. She will love to get a number of little things, and you can give her a lot more than the standard flowers and candy. It is easy to decorate a gift basket. First, you need to pick the basket itself. It can be a wicker basket, a plastic basket, a bowl made of earthenware, porcelain bowlsbasically any container that is big enough to hold everything you want to give your mom. You will need something to decorate it with (streamers, glitter, etc), a transparent sheet to cover the basket, and some ribbon to tie around the top of the sheet. As for the contents, you can put just about anything in the gift basket. Chocolates are most common. You can also put in candy, cookies, and cakes in with the chocolates. Or, you could also give her a basket with different types of teas and coffees. Another favorite with mothers are bath products like salts, oils, bath foams and gels, brushes, and sponges. You could also fill the basket up with candles, candleholders, incense sticks, scents, potpourri, and perhaps even a potpourri burner. Or, you could go with different types of beauty products and makeup. Stationery is also a good idea. You can fill the gift basket with pen, paper, envelopes, and writing pads. You can also fill the basket with your moms favorite music and movies. If your mom likes gardening, you can put seeds, books, tools, and a pair of gloves in the basket. Or, if your mom is a kitchen whiz, you can fill the basket with oven mitts, wooden spoons, whisks, a set of knives, recipes, etc. If she likes to sew or knit, you can get her a basket full of thread, spools, wool, and needles. The possibilities for a creative and thoughtful basket are endless.
